May 26, 10 am – 12:30 pm EDT and 4:00 – 6:30 pm EDT
On this auspicious day Khenpo Samdup Rinpoche will bestow the 3 precept vows (Nyingne, Bodichitta and Vajrayana vows) in the morning and share the Saka Dawa teachings at the Enlightenment Stupa In Loma Bonita, Mexico.
Followed by this, Khenpo will lead us in a practice of purification and accumulation centered on Chenrezig. Chenrezig is the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas. During the one-day practice (nyingne) we purify negative karma and obscurations and accumulate merit by visualizing Chenrezig’s form and generating compassion with our minds, reciting his mantra with our speech, and offering prostrations with our bodies.
This practice requires maintaining the eight Mahayana precepts and fasting after the noon meal and continues until breakfast on the next day. The vows or 8 precepts that we take include not killing, stealing, or lying, and abstaining from sexual activity, intoxicants, luxury, ornaments, and entertainment for the duration of the retreat. Meditation sessions include prayers, offerings, prostrations, and extensive mantra recitation, cultivating all three vehicles of Buddhism. Practicing Nyingne with great devotion increases peace in oneself and the world, brings happiness and good fortune.
Khenpo will continue in the afternoon with reading the King of Aspiration Prayer and other dedication prayers. Please join us on this auspicious day at the Enlightenment Stupa dedicating the vast accumulations of merit and positive actions to gaining enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.
