Saga Dawa:
A Month of Honoring the Buddha’s Life
Saga Dawa observations take place in the fourth Tibetan month, which in 2018 begins on May 16th and ends on June 13th. Most holy of all is the full moon day of Saga Dawa, the 15th day of the month, which is the date most commonly associated with not only Buddha’s birth but also his enlightenment and parinirvana.
During this month practitioners place special emphasis on Dharma practice like circumambulation of monasteries and stupas, prostrations, taking precepts, reciting mantras, offering mandalas, doing sadhanas and saving animals lives, etc. Traditionally, the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and entry into Nirvana at his death are observed together on the 15th day of Saga Dawa, which this year falls on Tuesday May 29th. All the merits of virtuous actions done on this day are multiplied one hundred million times.
May the benefits for all beings be endless!
