This ritual introduces participants to the enlightened nature of our body\, speech\, and mind and authorizes us to practice the visualization\, mantra recitation\, and meditation of Vajrapani. The practice of the wrathful buddha Vajrapani is utilized to dispel obstacles and negativity and create positive conditions for progress on the path to enlightenment.\nOn Saturday morning Khenpo will give the oral transmission of the liturgical practice (sadhana) of Vajrapani\, teach how to perform it\, and lead group practice. During the practice sessions Khenpo will also offer instruction in other meditation methods such as the generation of love\, calm abiding\, and insight meditation. DESCRIPTION:“The Standing Blade of Grass”\n10am-12pm \n12pm-1:30pm (Lunch\, included with registration)\n1:30pm-4:30pm \nThe Phowa practice is the most direct and quickest method by which one may be assured of a positive rebirth and possible enlightenment at the time of death. During this retreat\, attendees will have the same opportunity of receiving and practicing the Phowa transmission and teachings as did many hundreds-of-thousands of Tibetans and other practitioners around the world. Also included in the retreat will be the Nyingma Lineage Phowa transmission that Khenpo Samdup Rinpoche received from Khenpo Munsel. \nKhenpo will explain the stages of death from a Tibetan Buddhist perspective\, including the signs that accompany each stage and techniques that allow practitioners to use the process of death as an opportunity for realization. DESCRIPTION:Join us to‌‌ni‌gh‌t ‌‌T‌u‌e‌sday M‌ay 2‌9‌th from 7:‌00pm-8:‌30pm‌ to Celebrate Saga Dawa as a community thru practice\, prayers and meditation. \nSaga Dawa:\nA Month of Honoring the Buddha’s Life\nSaga Dawa observations take place in the fourth Tibetan month\, which in 201‌8 begins on ‌M‌a‌y 16‌‌th and ends on Ju‌ne 13‌th‌. Most holy of all is the full moon day of Saga Dawa\, the 15th day of the month\, which is the date most commonly associated with not only Buddha’s birth but also his enlightenment and parinirvana. \nDuring this month practitioners place special emphasis on Dharma practice like circumambulation of monasteries and stupas\, prostrations\, taking precepts\, reciting mantras\, offering mandalas\, doing sadhanas and saving animals lives\, etc. Traditionally\, the Buddha’s birth\, enlightenment and entry into Nirvana at his death are observed together on the 15th day of Saga Dawa\, which this year falls on ‌‌Tu‌es‌d‌ay M‌ay 29‌th‌. All the merits of virtuous actions done on this day are multiplied one hundred million times. \nMay the benefits for all beings be endless!

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 11th\, 9am to 5:30 pm\nSaturday\, May 12th\, 9am to 5:30 pm\nSunday\, May 13th\, 9am to 5:30 pm\n(Each day there will be a lunch break from Noon – 2:30pm)\nGarchen Rinpoche will teach the pith instructions he received from his root guru Siddhi Chime Dorjee and Khenpo Munsel. These teachings will present the experiential understanding of these special instructions that Rinpoche developed over more than 20 years of rigorous practice while in prison. These teachings will include all aspects of the path including various practices of Dzogchen and Mahamudra. \nKhenpo samdup explains the nature of these teachings as follows: \n“It is important to understand the definition of pith instructions. Pith instructions are a very special teaching that is given from the root guru to his close students. These instructions are made up of few words but express a profound meaning and can have an immediate\, transformative effect on the student’s mind. These teachings are not from a story from a 1000 years ago\, they are from the 20th century\, from a person alive today sharing his own direct experience and deep accomplishment. I was encouraged to request these teachings for the benefit of  many students now and in the future. \nAfter receiving these teachings from Garchen Rinpoche\, he will single pointedly bring them all together thru the instruction of Five Fold Path Mahamudra based on Jigten Sumgon’s Song of Realization.\, this will provide a path for students to be able to easily practice these instructions in their daily life.”

Throughout this year many people have passed away. Furthermore\, we are also all going to die. Amitabha practice is an easy way to liberate ourselves and others. Amitabha’s pureland is less difficult to reach than other purelands. In addition Garchen Rinpoche will do many dedications and make aspirations for those that have passed away. \n“The Jang Chog Rituals will be a part of the practice and this has two aspects;  one is to connect those who have died with the blessings of Amitabha creating the causes for a positive rebirth. The second aspect is removing obstacles at the time of our death\, even if at that time no one practices on our behalf. As practitioners\, life is our best teacher. Because we have mind\, we have emotions and they can and do become our guru as we apply the Dharma. Khenmo will give meditation instructions and teach from the three yanas on anger and related states of mind. She will use three sources: Buddha\, who in the sutras\, gave very specific teachings on relating to anger; Shantideva’s Courage of Patience chapter that illuminates a wise and compassionate response to understanding the sources of anger and the value of taming it and Pema Chodron’s teachings on anger from Go to the Places that Scare You. \nThis retreat will incorporate Dharma talks with group sitting and walking meditation. Every day will have two Dharma talks and several hours of Calm Abiding silent meditation. Gar Drolma is located in a quiet\, old city neighborhood with narrow streets. There is no parking lot.\nBelmont High School located at 2615 Wayne Ave\, Dayton\, Ohio 45420 [CLICK FOR MAP] has generously allowed us to use their parking lot. Please park there; it is a short 2-block walk from the high school to Gar Drolma.\nIf you must park on the street\, we do want to be good neighbors\, so please allow room for the people in front and back of you to get out when you park. If you are able to fold your side mirror in\, we suggest you do that.\nWe are able to provide 3 parking spaces in the front of the building for less able attendees. Please tell us in advance if you need a special parking space.\nA list of local restaurants will be available for lunch. Snacks\, tea\, and other refreshments are available at the Center.

During this retreat\, attendees will have the same opportunity of receiving and practicing the Phowa transmission and teachings as did many hundreds-of-thousands of Tibetans and other practitioners around the world. Also included in the retreat will be the Nyingma Lineage Phowa transmission that Khenpo Samdup Rinpoche received from Khenpo Munsel. \nKhenpo will explain the stages of death from a Tibetan Buddhist perspective\, including the signs that accompany each stage and techniques that allow practitioners to use the process of death as an opportunity for realization.
