Khenpo Samdup Rinpoche will begin a 7 month course of teaching of his commentary on Jigten Sumgon’s Essence of Mahayana. This text presents the philosophy and practice of the Mahayana in a systematic manner, beginning with the 4 common preliminary contemplations and proceeding through the generation of bodhicitta, the generation and completion stages of Vajrayana, and the Five-fold Mahamudra.

The initial weekend of teachings from the Essence of Mahayana will include a presentation of the Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind, here called “Abandoning the Faults of the Vessel” they are:

  1. The Precious Human Birth

Internalizing the meaning of these contemplations provides an indispensable foundation for all further buddhist practice.
